The Gateways Club, Radio 4 drama series
A Sweet Talk production (producer/director Karen Rose) starring Imelda Staunton and Barbara Flynn,
broadcast February 2003

Intro

This five-part series, which went out in the Woman’s Hour drama slot, tells the fictionalised story of the lesbian club made famous by the groundbreaking 60s film, ‘The Killing of Sister George’. The daughter of the owner, Gina Ware, provided both blessing and background, and the programmes are a collage of drama, atmospheric archive and interviews with people who were there and only now have chosen to speak about the Gates, as it was known.
